This Colt Lightning Slide-Action Rifle was manufactured in 1887. The rifle has a octagon barrel with full-length 10-shot, magazine. The barrel has a dove-tail mounted "Rocky Mountain" front sight with nickel-silver blade and a sporting style rear sight. The barrel, magazine and receiver are blued and the crescent buttplate has a case-hardened finish. The rifle has an oil-finished walnut stock and checkered forearm. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT. 18. 83.MAY 26. 85.JUNE 15. 86. FEB.22. 1887." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "45-60-300" is roll-stamped in large script letters on the left barrel flat, just ahead of the receiver.
