The Jarmann M1878-79 was a bolt action single shot rifle that fired black powder 10.15 x 61mm R rounds. It was invented by Jacob Smith Jarmann, a Norwegian firearms designer. The Jarmann M1878-79 was evaluated by a joint Norwegian-Swedish board in 1878-79. The board decided that the rifle was good, but they demanded a repeating version of the same rifle. That is why the Jarmann M1884 was made in 1881 and it was adopted by the Norwegian Army in 1884. The Jarmann M1878-79 was never adopted.
