Joslyn Firearms 1864 Breech Loading Carbine Complete Specs and Full Gun Specifications
The Model 1864 Breech Loading Carbine was a single shot rimfire carbine designed by Benjamin Franklin Joslyn and made by Joslyn Firearms Company in Stonington, Connecticut in 1864. The Joslyn was an effective and popular carbine that was widely issued to Federal Cavalry throughout the Civil War. Ordnance Department bought 800 of them. Model 1864 used the Spencer .56-52 rimfire cartridge. Smooth straight grip stock with "FDL" cartouches on the left side over the saddle ring bar and a "US" marked buttplate. The Joslyn was loaded by pivoting the breech block on a hinge, secured by a friction latch with a hook tab on the 1862 model, later production employed a spring pull latch. Standard features include a brass contoured butt plate, brass trigger guard, single brass barrel band, two leaf hinged sight, saddle bar and riding ring on left side, six lands & grooves.
