The Lebel Model 1886 rifle was bolt action French military rifle adopted by French army in 1887. The Lebel rifle had the distinction of being the first military firearm to use smokeless powder ammunition. It was designed by the team of of gun designes lead by gen. Tramond. The Lebel rifle had forestock tubular magazine that holds 8 rounds. The Lebel rifle remained the basic weapon of French infantry during World War I and over 2.8 million were made from 1887 to 1920 by French State manufacturers - MAC (Manufacture d'Armes de Chatellerault), MAS (Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne) and Tulle. It is also known as the "Fusil Mle 1886 M93", after a bolt modification was added in 1893.
