The Marlin Model 1892 was designed by John Mahlon Marlin and manufactured from 1892 to 1916 by Marlin Firearms in New Heaven, CT. Around 45,000 of them were made in that time. The Model 1892 was an improved version of the Model 1891. The most important difference from the Model 1891 was the elimination of the lever-operating trigger safety device. In 1905, the name was changed from Model 1892 to Model 92. The Model 1892 was made for the .22 rimfire and the .32 rimfire ammo. The version for .32 rimfire ammo was shipped with an additional firing pin that could be installed without any tools instead of the original firing pin, then the .32 centerfire ammo could be used in the same rifle.
