The MAS-38 was a blowback submachine gun designed in 1935 and manufactured from 1936 to 1946 by French manufacturer MAS (Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne). It was a very high quality weapon machined from solid steel and only a few parts were stampings. It was used by by French and German forces in WWII. The French police continued to use the MAS-38 after World War II until it was replaced in the 1950s by the MAT-49 submachine gun. The MAS-38 was used by Italian partisans to shoot the former Italian Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
