Ruger SP101 Reviews
Got it decently quick. Ha
February 9, 2022SP 101 revolver
Great gun. I bought the 4.2 inch barrel with a great discount at BPS. I bought it mainly for it's lighter weight for backpacking. It's great for personal defense with .38's and well able to handle 180 grain .357's for the woods. The only problem I've had

February 9, 2022Wonderful companion
I have this in 4.2 inch 357.The grips and trigger were not the greatest but changing them out was so easy. Wolf trigger and hammer springs went in and the grips were replaced with Hogue mono grips. My goodness, what a difference. I am hitting an eight inc

I purchased the 3 inch .357 magnum SP101 several years ago, I just sent it in for repair, this is the 3d time, they repaired it the first time, the second time they said it couldn't be repaired and sent me a new gun, now I have problems yet again. It is p

February 9, 2022Gun was damaged and not stored right to begin with
Lesson learned = always look very close at a firearm before you purchase at Cabela's. Even if it is "new". This gun looked great in the store. It was my first revolver purchase. I took it home where I started to take a closer look only to find a

February 9, 2022Nice little revolver
I bought the .327 magnum version. I really like the versatility of this gun. So far, I have only shot .32 H&R magnums out of this revolver as they are much more readily available. The factory grip is attractive, but far too small for me to shoot comfo

February 9, 2022Target shooting fun.
I had previously rented the S&W 686 revolver at my local gun range and wanted to add a revolver to my range bag in addition to my .22 for shooting targets.

February 9, 2022Great Gun with a hang-up
This is my second review on the gun the first was prior to shooting it. I changed this from 5 stars to 4 only because after firing, the spent rounds seem to be a little stuck in the cylinder. I had to force them out. I thoroughly cleaned my gun and will g

February 9, 2022I Had High Hopes, I mean, it's a Ruger!
I purchased the .327 Magnum w/4.2" bbl. I was impressed w/the features, like really fantastic sights, which is why I eventually swallowed what I thought was a high price and tried it out. Ruger's reputation for absolute reliability also helped seal t

February 9, 2022Perfect
Purchased the SP101 in 357 with 2.25 barrel. I like the heavier pistol, well balanced. Also have the KP 161. Can't beat the quality. 38 has low kick, 357's no problem either. Highly recommend.

February 9, 2022Great gun but mediocre packaging
This is a beautiful firearm, it is balanced, fits my hand well and carries very comfortable. I do think it handles the 38 Special rounds better than the 357 Mags but it is still a pleasure to shoot.

February 9, 2022Solid as a Rock
I just bought this today and haven't yet pushed a round through it but! I am so impressed with this gun. It fits my hand perfectly, feels balanced, is very attractive and will carry comfortably. I give it 5 stars because I am impressed with it right out o

February 9, 20224.25" SP101 "Kit Gun"
At first, I considered the 4.25" SP101 to be a real odd duck, but that is changing. I tend to carry it more and more in the woods, because it has a habit of staying out of the way and being much less noticeable in weight than a 6 shot gun. The gun ha

February 9, 2022SP101 in 357 hammerless
Ruger stainless steel revolvers, built like a tank. This is the type of firearm you pass on to the next generation. Trigger pull was a little heavy for my liking so I put in a 10# trigger spring. Took about 5 minutes to do. Now when other shooters try my

February 9, 2022Ruger SP101 snub nose
Have owned this gun for almost three years now and still love it. Strong, solid steel construction. Original grips were somewhat cheap, but purchased nice rosewood wood grips that give the weapon an old school look. Good CC weapon. Liked the Ruger so much

February 9, 2022Great Revolver
I bought the 4.25 inch barrel for more accuracy and I was never more pleased with a purchase. Out of the box it was very close and only needed a minor adjustment of the rear sight.

February 9, 2022A Better 38 Special Than 357 Magnum
I have many years experience with the SP101 and have found that it works far better as a +P38 Special than a 357 Magnum. My reasons are that:

February 9, 2022SP101 - Model 5718 2.25"
Have a number of Ruger revolvers/pistol. Good quality, durable, only 4 stars instead of 5 on this one is due to lousy rear sight that can not be changed out, front sight standard ramp. Don't like them, never have, never will.

February 9, 2022Revolvers Never Fail
Of the multiple handguns in my collection for sport and personal protection, the Ruger SP 101 is the gun of choice I put in my wife's night stand. When things go bump in the night there is no thinking, no safety , no racking a round - just point, squeeze

February 9, 2022Like Butter...
This is a great revolver and love the stainless steel. Double action has quiet the trigger pull so accuracy decreases with use of double action. I prefer using hammer to cock back when I am looking for accurate grouping. Cleans up nice. Definitely go with

February 9, 2022Great all purpose gun.
The one I bought is a little different than the one pictured. Mine has a 4" barrel and adjusable rear sights, other than that it's the same. I got it for my wife and she loves it. I steal it away from her from time to time when hog hunting. It's a ve

February 9, 2022Perfect snub nose revolver.
This revolver means business. Period. I bought this for my concealed carry and love it. With the bobbed hammer & 2 1/4" barrel it makes it ideal for C.C. Solid construction. Ruger didn't skimp on the construction of this.357 magnum.

February 9, 2022Fantastic Firearm

February 9, 2022Very Solid Pistol
I have been looking for a revolver because my lady can't rack the slide on an auto (she broke her hand and now has no strength). I owned a Ruger Security Six back in the 70's and sold it to get a Glock. I wish I had never sold it, Ruger has always made a

If you are buying this for concealed carry, see if you can borrow one for a few days as it is considered "too heavy" by many in today's age of super light handguns. But, if you plan to carry this on the belt, and want a gun that is top power and

February 9, 2022Excellent base self defense revolver
This was my first handgun purchase when I was a young man about 20 years ago. I was a busy young businessman from a non-military background or family. However, our family shot handguns & hunted, so I was not unaquainted with firearms.

February 9, 2022Good buy
I owned 3 other Rugers, and really like this one. Built solid, shoots .357 comfortably, .38 are a breeze. IHave owned two other 2 inch snubbies, couldn't hit squat with them, but with the 3 inch version of this gun, I am much more accurate. Love it.

February 9, 2022Excellent Weapon
I reload both 38 and 357's for this gun. I have put well over 2K rounds combined through it. The full load 357's are hard on your hand. They mid loads are easier to handle but would not be recommended for extended periods. This is due to the small grips a

February 9, 2022Best on the market!
My wife and I own 4 Ruger SP-101's, two in .357mag, one in .32H&R (discontinued#, and one in .327 Federal. We also own 3 other snub nosed revolvers in the same class: S&W 60 Ladysmith #twice the price#, and two Taurus 85's.

February 9, 2022Ruger SP-101 - You won't be sorry!
I have 2 of these - 3-inch barrel with external hammer, and 2.25-inch barrel with internal hammer. As Rugers, these revolvers are sharp-looking & built like tanks. Shooting .357 mag ammo is more pleasant after replacing factory grips (which themselves

February 9, 2022Tough as nails
Typical of Ruger products you get a quality firearm at a good price. Most of you already know this but if you buy the .357 you can load and shoot the lighter .38 all day long. I would recommend the 3" model because it gives you a little extra weight

February 9, 2022SP101 .357 Magnum 3"
I couldn't believe the tight pattern that I was shooting right out of box. It was like an extension of my body. Love carrying it, and I love shooting it!! This beats the 1 7/8" to 2" barrels all day long for consistent accuracy!

Was a 25 year+ loyalist of S & W J-frame. When taking my daughter to get her first S & W, a 642CT, the SP 101 caught my eye. Always liked GP series so bought this and find it to be a much more sturdy weapon than the S & W. I like a heavier rev

TheRuger SP101 .357 w/3" barrel in SS for me has been a good choice. Not too big for c carry and yet above a snubby .It is well balanced, yet not overly heavy ,so a lady would enjoy it. Handles recoil well, as I use .38cal std loads w/125-140gr. bulle
